Nero 8

Only because I can't get Nero 9 to work properly.

Convert X to DVD is dead handy for burning other formats (divx, xvid and the likes) onto dvds as proper readable in dvd-players discs - it'll let you set up menus and such very easily.

download.com would have plenty of free programs, you should find something suitable there. Download 'Free' as opposed to 'Free to try' programs, they stay free.

I use ConvertXToDVD 3 and it works a treat every time. Converts almost any type of of video file to DVD format and copies it to a disk in one go, & DVDFab Platinum for backing up DVD's, even the latest ones.

CDBurnerXP is excellent freeware burning software.
CDBurnerXP is a free application to burn CDs and DVDs, including Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs.
It also includes the feature to burn and create ISOs, as well as a multilanguage interface.
Operating Systems: Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista/Windows 7

Super (freeware) will convert practically any video or music format to anything else.
User interface is a bit quirky but it's very powerful when you get used to it.

Yeah, you're not wrong there! You have to go through about ten pages, extolling the virtues of the software, before you eventually find the download link. Still... it's pretty good and it's free.

oh aye seems pretty cool..

I'm mucking about with that cdburnerXP application - and it's pretty brilliant! Very impressed that it's free..

One thing I can't seem to get to work properly is the Volume Normalisation which is somewhat crucial for Audio discs.

The only way I know to apply normalisation using CDBurnerXP is by attaching Replay Gain info to the tracks first with other software (e.g. foobar2000).
CDBurnerXP recognises this info and applies it when burning.
The following article explains it better than I can:
