Stepper Motor Question

Postby Damo » Thu Jan 26, 2006 11:54 am

Guys, I was having some revving problems and the car was feeling quite sluggish. I pulled out the stepper motor at the weekend at there was a lot of grime built up on it. I cleaned it anyway and the revving issues have stopped but the car is still fairly sluggish, I can really notice it driving through town the power dips and picks back up again. Could this still be the stepper motor or should I be looking for something different? Camskill have them on special at the moment so I would buy one straight away if I thought it would solve the problem.

How is the car starting from cold - does it die if you take your foot off the gas?

Did you disconnect the battery after you cleaned the stepper motor ? If not then disconnect it for 40mins (resets the ECU) and see if it makes a difference.

How did you clean the stepper motor?

This could be an number of issues - The Lambda sensor being another possible candidate.

Its starting fine now used to die sometimes from cold but not since we cleaned it.

I didn't clean it myself but there was a large build up of some substance on the head of it and he had to use emery paper to take it off, he greased it then with some oil I'm not sure what.

I didn't try resetting the ECU though, I'll try that first. Thanks for the help.

could be the air flow sensor....a friend of mine had similar problems to yours and he got it put up on a MUT-II and it diagnosed this to be it.
