Postby gt94 » Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:49 am

Had one of these on the gpx http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p154
Was wondering is there as much(8hp) to be gained from the panel version

Loved the sound the MAXOGEN gave in the mivec range any one here use the panel one pros/cons?

I imagine the ITG induction will "sound" a lot better than panel filter. As for performance - I'd say there'll be nothing in it between either and possibly the panel filter will work out with higher bhp gains in hotter engine temps.

Me - I'd go with the ITG induction kit and fit a heat shield and get a cold air kit to run some cooler air to it. Best of both worlds.

Have you considered a K&N induction kit? I've had theese on three cars I have owned and they sounds the mutts nutts! I have an ITG induction kit on my GPX and to be honest the foam material it's made of dosen't give as deep an induction roar as the K&N which is made from surgical cotton with steel honeycomb mesh covering. I found the K&N to be a little more hardy compared to the ITG as the foam can tear easily.
I second what mffto said about the heat sheild and cold air feed routed from the front air dam in the bumper as this is the set up I have on mine.

I had an ITG kit in my last GPX and it was 6 years old by the time I sold the car to Adrian no. 1 - the filter held up without any sign of deterioration over that term. I assume the same filter in in Adrian no.2's car and is still going strong!

Note that ITG filters came out on top in an FTOOC test a few years ago beating all others (including K&N) in terms of performance increase.

The great thing about ITG filters is that you can wash them in a bucket of suds - not an option with some K&Ns and equivalent.

There's hardly any difference in BHP gains between the HKS and the ITG... big difference in price though.

I stand corrected, the ITG achieved 197 bhp while the HKS came in at 199bhp. If I remember correctly, the HKS cost 3 times more than the ITG at the time, the ITG was the best value filter tested in terms of gains vs. cost.

Just reading there about being able to wash the ITG air filter in a bucket of suds. I've got 2 HKS in mine, can they also be washed like this?

I'm open to correction, but I think you need to buy the replacement filters for these, get them on ebay cheap enough. With the ITG filter you need to apply a dust retention spray after cleaning. I'm could be wrong though, maybe you can clean the HKS filter and apply the same spray as well?

That was over one run, but they averaged the same over the two runs.
I know where my money would be going.

All said, I still prefer the sound of the K&N.
