Random LED light under centre console

Postby dcfto » Tue Aug 26, 2008 12:34 pm

Hi lads,

I pulled out my centre console to put in blue leds instead of the original bulbs and as said above there is a random wire with a bulb on the end of it. It is wired to the light that goes into the cigarette lighter, it works and all but i just dont know where its supposed to go. Its just lying there loose now, it wasnt attached to anything when i removed the plastic surround. My neighbour had a look and he reckons i should take the fascia off the gear stick surround as it might be a light for the P N R D symbols. Anyone got any idea...Just thought I'd throw it out there any how and see what ye have to say...

Cheers,
dc

Just at the back of the the section where the ashtray slides in theres a hole alright but when I slide the ashtray in it knocks it out. Theres a (for want of a better way to say it) protruding nub type thing fixed to the back of the ashtray which fits the hole perfectly. Should I trim this 'nub' off and fix the bulb into the ashtray?

Cheers

no it's not the hole at the back of the ashtray.

the bulb holder for the ashtray is on the bottom right hand corner, you'll see a little window where the light shines through

I haven't had to trim the ashtray at all..

Have another fiddle with it -as far as I remember the led fitting kinda twist a half turn and is then kept in place by a nub or similar..

Cheers Colm, that did the job. it wasnt connected when i pulled the out the console surround and i couldnt find that little bracket! sorted now anyhow, stuck it in just there at lunch.

Anyone know how to fit a bulb for the ignition barrel, havent really looked at it yet but any advice/info would be appreciated.

Cheers,

you have to strip most of the covers there .
not 100% sure but i think steering wheel has to come down.

was trying to change that bulb miself last week and it was a job bigger than i expected.so left it

I replaced mine when I had everything off anyways..

As far as I remember you need to to remove the steering wheel to get the covers off but I'm not 100% sure..

Once you have the covers off though it's straightforward enough - the most important thing you need to know is..

if you have to apply more force to getting the covers off than you thought you had to - you've missed a screw..check and double check that you have all the screws out - ones up a really deep "hole" in the underside of the cover and you'll need a long screwdriver to get at it..
