thats true. The ignition time can cause problems too, plus they are illegal for high beams unless off roading (in the uk anyway).

Another point nobody mentions is that HIDs are designed for focused light thru a projector, the high beam reflector makes the light spread out to wide to do any good..

There is lots on other boards about HIDs as high beams and all the numerous reasons why they are not recommended.

Got them yesterday, superfast shipping from HK. All in they look as good as any other HID kits I've seen, will fit over the weekend. Colm, not sure why you had trouble inserting the bulbs into the holders, they look like stock HID bulbs to me.

Sounds good, just ordered a set of these myself, so what, about 10 days for delivery?
CJ, if you do encounter any problems, would you mind taking some photos of how you get around the problem? I've never installed a set, so I might have a few questions when mine arrive. Thanks

Bit off topic here but I have received several pacages from China over the last number of years and the shipping is super fast. How can it be quicker sometimes to send something from China than sending something from Ireland to UK.

I've done them before, the ones that I put into the blue FTO went in no bother. the main problem is that

A is too thick, and B is slightly the wrong size too. loosening the screws makes it possible to fit them, but I'm telling you it's not just a matter of throwing them in. having an induction kit as opposed to airbox would have made the passenger side a lot easier.

Let me know how you get on!

Right, I was going to go at them this evening in the dark (like the last set I installed), good thing I didn't. Will report back on progress.

HIDS installed today, 2 problems:

1. The connector from the ballast to the stock wiring to ever so slightly too small and needs one of locking tabs removed: Solution: cut off locking tab with Stanley knife, trim inside and outside of connector with knife.

2. As per Colm, the bulbs will not fit into the lights without some facbrication. Solution: (a) File a chamfer onto the edges of the bulb holder above the rubber o-ring (b) trim down the 3 securing points with a knife and file to finish off (c) turn ACW and distribute the force evenly across the bulb holder, it should slide in under pressure. Bear in mind that theres a rish of hitting the bulb with the tools, thread carefully.

The kit is very good quality, its a pity that you need to mess about to get it in place. That said, it only took me 45mins to fit the set which isn't too bad.

Would I buy the same set again? Most definetely - its cheap and well built (one of the best I've seen in fact), as long as you can use a knife and a file, you're sorted.

the wiring block shouldn't need to be cut down, unless your wiring is different to mine, being a facelift. the plugs were very tight alright, but they went in eventually and should prove watertight.

Did you use the extension leads supplied, or did you plug the stock wiring into the ballast?

Where did you mount the ballasts?

I used the extension leads, theres no way the connectors on the leads will fit the stock wiring without some chopping and filing. Cable-tied the ballats to the PS resevoir bracket \ battery clamp - none of your fancy brackets and screws thanks very much ;)

By the way, despite quoting 4.3k on the box and leads, I'm convinced the kit is 6k - the light is pure white as opposed to ever so slightly yellow (as I was expecting). Off to ebay to get some white W5W LED bulbs to complete the look....

Silly question, but is that for the fog lights? Are those what go in the pre-facelift beside the indicator?

they're for the parking lights Tom, these are beside the indicators in classic (still not 100% about this name!) models, and in the headlight unit on those new fangled facelift models.

I was just looking at HID kits on Ebay, is there anything to be gained by 50W kits?

Like these.

Yes, more power consumption than standard kits! HIDs normally operate at 35W i.e. lower than standard halogen or incandescent bulbs.

Bar the 15W extra power consumption...
They're claiming 40% extra brightness over standard HIDs,
does that just mean they're putting extra pressure on normal HID bulbs and therefore shortening the life span or are they just better?

I'd stick with the regular ones Bernard. don't know what heat output would be from the heavier bulbs.

The standard ones are plenty bright anyway, and so far no Gardai have stopped me!

As far as I know, the only difference in the facelift headlight unit is that it has a parking bulb.

I presuming you're talking about the dipped beam?

Got mine in the post today, and went at fitting them just there, and all I can say is... Sa-weeet! :D
Not sure why, but mine fitted straight in, no adjustment at all, the longest part was deciding where to put the ballast.

Just fitted a set of these for a lady today. Not a problem, fitted straight on no need to use the extension cables either.

THere must be some variation in there manufacturing process. All in All well worth the money.
