Very same thing happened to my friend when he was selling his evo.
(cant remember exact figures), but lets say he was selling the car for €20,000
Got a call from a guy saying he has seen the car around would pay my friend the full ammount and could collect in a few days,
My friend said sure gave his address,
Cheque followed shortly in the post but was for €25,000. €5000 more than the asking price.
Phone call came saying sorry but I sent you too much money would you mind sending me back a cheque for €5,000 (before the original one cleared),
Needless to say my friend told him where to shove his cheque,
Sure enough cheque bounced.

Through Western Union Money Transfere usually  If it sounds to good to be true it usually is. Sad that we have to be so cynical.

Is that a crime in the UK/Ireland to write a cheque that will bounce? I know in America its a very serious crime to write a cheque that bounces.

Sure is. If you write a cheque knowing that you have insufficient funds then it's a crime. Problem is, it's just not their cheque!
