* Print Design Competition *

Postby Muad_dib77 » Wed May 14, 2008 9:31 am

The all new www.fto-ireland.com design competition is hereby launched!

From now till the 15th of June you can submit your own design (1 per member please, so make it count) by posting it in this thread and emailing it to myself on guild.computers@gmail.com.

A panel of judges will pick the 5 best ones and there will be a "vote off" between the 5.

The price is a brand new tshirt with your own super print on it.

Files can be no larger than 2mb in size - File format must be .PNG with transparency.

I'm going to ask a stupid question here but whats a png file? And I presume that massive detail isnt a great idea especially if its getting printed? Correct?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Network_Graphics

Essentially it's a file format similar to jpg and gif - with the difference that it supports transparent backgrounds - gif supports it as well but for some reason the design site doesn't work well with gifs.

Do as many colors as you like - but please save in .png if possible.

Can anyone recommend a good graphics package, I might have a go at the competition.

I should have some good ideas in my head from the seventies if only I could remember :smt119 .

As muad pointed out, go for whatever design you like. If I had the Photoshop skills, I would personally be concentrating on monochrome as its transfers well onto fabric. With that in mind, can I draw peoples attention to the FTO graphic on Richard Battys site:

For some time, I've been attempting a similar design without much luck, my plan was to update the FTO-Ireland site logo with a monochrome FTO, this in turn would become our new site identity to appear on stickers, t-shirts etc across the board. While this is an open comp from a creativity perspective, I personally will be looking out for designs suitable for use as a new club identity. I've upload a PSD version of the current www.fto-ireland.com logo for anyone who wants to integrate it into their design, see link below:

Get busy!

OK, my entry maud. I know, its a bit colourful and a bit detailed, think its a bit much for the purpose of the competition, I got a little carried away, but I said I'd post it anyway cause I sort of like it.
(By the way I'll email you 2 files tomorrow, ones a jpeg and the other is a png, I'm sending the jpeg as well cause the png comes up very dark when I open it for some reason and the jpeg shows the proper tones.
Cheers.)
