Wish your budget could stretch to 5.5K Euro?????????

Pretty much any FTO below this money is gonna require at least as much (as the difference to 5.5K) to get right again.

While the asking price of FTO's tends to vary widely - I'd be surprised to find an FTO I'd consider buying for less than 5.5K.

Postby padidas » Tue Mar 25, 2008 2:35 am

im just not sure anymore.. :(
the absolute MOST I could afford would be 4,500 (thats due to the covering of the jump in my insurance from a 1.4 escort to the fto)

Am I kidding myself?

is there any point trying to do this?

:(

It's possible to find good examples at that price - but they're so few and far between that you shouldnt' count on getting one.

Generally if a car is cheap - there's a good reason for it :-)

Pad - I'd save up a few more euros..if you're at 4500 you're nearly at 5500 ;-)

Agree with MyFeckin and Muad on this one.....

A Cheap FTO will most likely need a few bob to get minor things fixed up (droplinks, bushes, service, cam belt etc)

Hold out Pad till you have circa 5.5 - 6 k.....would be better off paying the extra for a nice clean example.

On topic....clean looking FTO there for sale.

This FTO looks like a good buy - clean GR manual - only in the country 16 months - and a spec/maintenance level that would cost almost as much as the car itself to get into the above condition when you think of the 17 inch enkeis, stainless exhaust , Induction kit and a recent service history that includes - all shocks replaced, new steering linkage and bearings fitted, suspension arms ,timing belt and water pump along with belt tensioner done.

Its exactly the type of FTO people should be looking out for - not something thats a grand or so cheaper thats bound to bite you on the ass within a couple of months. FTOs are not new cars - they do require a good level of maintenance at this stage of their lives.

Buying an FTO is not the expensive bit - keeping it in good condition is where the real cost is.

My current 350Z has cost me a LOT less to maintain than my last FTO - mostly because the FTO had come to the stage in its life where it needed most of its wearing parts changed - plugs, belts, dampers, bushes, droplinks, exhaust (the OE exhaust will rot), clutch, brakes - all had to be addressed and thats before I had to consider any performance or cosmetic mods like bodykit, alloys, interior etc

Buy an FTO VERY carefully - put it on a ramp and make sure you have a list of whats done and what is likely to have to be done over the coming year or so. Then you'll have a better idea about what a good value FTO really looks like.

When you take the above into consideration - the cheapest FTO sold this year was CJs 94 FTO at circa 6.7K

I must admit, I'm happy I fell in love with FTO's...

(I dont think any other car owners sites out there would be giving half as much valuable advice!)

ps.

I'm looking at the manual GR above and all I can think is "soon".... hehe

thanks again lads and if you see another like this before i get the cash together let me know.

well I first need to sell mine (2000 reg imperial blue escort)

it'll be on the market in about a week, and thats why I was thinking this car won't be about by the time I can get the extra cash ontop of what I was offered on mine...

Also i'm paid monthly so, all this adds up...
