Blue Heater / Aircon Controls

Postby Hercules Q. Einstein » Sat Jul 07, 2007 8:52 pm

I've just seen this item on e-may

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... otohosting

Can the standard Aircon controls be turned into blue simply be changing bulbs or something like that?

The guy is selling the whole unit .. It's a 20-30min jobreplacing the bulbs with leds..only difficult bit is to diffuse the light to avoid "bright spots".. Mine lights up blue..

51gbp is crazy money..

Hey...
What exactly do you mean by "diffuse the light to avoid "bright spots"?

I'm gonna give it a go during the week, reckon it would compliment nicely with a head unit with a hazy blue display and hidden blue neons throwing light on the floor.

LEDs generally have a quite tight "light beam" and as they mount quite close to the back of the display they have a tendency to create brightspots. However you cam overcome this by coating the tip of the led - our by purchasing diffusercaps..(about 10c a pop).. The trick is to kill enough light to avoid the spots, but let enough come through so the display is readable.

I've stripped out the Aircon unit and got the 4 LEDs out no problem.
Where can I get blue LEDs of that type.
I'm gonna try Maplin and Halfords tomorrow.

It's not too bad - as far as I remember it's only 8 screws in total..

RE the small LEDs that you remove from the back of the Aircon unit.
Can you remove the LED from the black holder and replace with a new one or are the LED and holder sold as one unit?
