right i was supposed to be collecting the car on thursday!

Found the car last saturday for sale and on sunday told him i would take a a look at the car and once it wasnt anything terrablely wring with it id take it!

so told him thursday i was gonna go up (took the day off work arranged a friend to go and pick me up) etc.

So,
thats asking him to hold the car for 4 days just till thursdaytill i was payied and id go get it off him...

so i woke up to a text today.......
"sorry bud sold the car last night"

Did you give a deposit?
If not did you specifically ask the guy to hold the car for you?
If the answer to both of these is no, then I fail to see the problem and I think it's a bit unfair to be slating the vendor.
Holding on to a car (and refusing a sale in the interim), for somebody who had neither seen the car, nor left a desposit, would be unwise on the part of a vendor.
Cash is king, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, etc, etc.

Sorry to hear this Dan BUT when you are selling a car then you take the arm off the first guy to hand over the required amount of dough! I've sold quite a few cars in my time (never traded-in any car) and you wouldn't believe the amount of guys that swear blind that they want to buy your car and then don't show. As per Mustang - Cash is king when you sell a car in todays 2nd hand marketplace.

Anyway I don't think you've missed much with that Red GR - I would have had some concerns myself re a couple of areas. The seller may also have preferred selling his FTO to a sucker rather than risk handling questions about the condition of his FTO.

Theres no shortage of FTOs for sale - it takes time to find the right one that you won't have to throw a few grand at to get right.

i drove up with my other half on saturday and had a look a quuick look at it and told him to hold it till thursday he wouldnt take it for hte cash i had in hand so i said wait till thursday when i get payied and ill have the money

@fto yea i suppose actually found a GpX bit out of my price range so iv called my oul pair and seeing if they will give me a few quid

Well if you did not leave a desposit you have no hold on the car. I do not see any wrong doing on the guys part. Also he was decent enough to let you know the car was sold - some others may not have extended that courtesy. If I was selling a car, and someone came to view with a wad of cash, (so I now know they actaully have cash on them), did not leave a desposit and said they'd be back next week with the rest of the money. I would assume that they were politely making their excuses before they left, were not interested in the car and would not expect to see them again. Any serious purchaser would agree a price, leave a deposit, and come back with the balance when collecting the car.

Tough break Dan. When your selling a car though you get 10s of blaggrds swearing they will be there the following afternoon etc etc. actually when your selling anything in Ireland. I sold a phone on boards.ie and same thing. 100s would buy it in 1 week if I held it etc. cash be the master. look at it positively though, you'll get a nicer one now though.

im gonna look at this yoke and really if i get a loan off my parents ill still be 500 short of askin price.

now i know everyone bumps a few quid extra on the price for space to haggle!

so amybe hell take it if not!

ill be giving a deposit! :lol:

Just remember if you are getting a deal that is too good to be true it usually is. You seem to be lookin to buy a very cheap FTO, these will normally need work running into 100's of euro. Why not spend a little more now if possible and get a good sound car.

Any good manual FTO will be making over 4K.
