Pimped my Ride

I spent my saturday putting in a new aluminium gear lever (auto), deep dish dial rings, alu dash panel and new parking lever cover (leather and alum). Looks good but cant get the bmp pics from my phone (on my pc now) to upload! Groan. Need photoshop or something. Amazing what a few little changes can do. Worth the effort of having the old head wrecked with getting the right tools for the job!

The standard FTO dash IMHO is pretty black and boring, one of the failures of jap cars, and really needs something to brighten it up. I put on the dial rings and needle cups and even just that much made a huge difference to it I think.

Agreed thet the FTO interior can look quite bland as standard, I already had the whire dials and dial rings, got a steering wheel, handbrake cover with sleeve, alu pedals and had the centre console, gear surround and outer instrument binnacle surround painted up in steel silver to jazz things up a bit:

Use the [img] tags... like

Except leave out the space after the img, I just had to put that in so it would show up as text.

Don't mean to hijack but CJ, how did you go about repainting the centre bit (what paint and so on...)?

I took 'em off and and had them spray painted when I was having some other work done in the body shop.

IIRC, all you need is a manual gearknob and gaiter which will fit the Tip surround just fine.

The upper bit of the centre console has a material and isn't just plastic, did you spray over it? Won't it peel off over time?

I'll look into that soon - I've got my gearbox coming in about 5 weeks from today so I'll have time to fix small things on the car.

I also did this on my old GR - I just put a maunal gear gaitor over the existing tip shifter... looked great if you ask me

How does that work for the button on top of the auto gear stick, do you just push down the manual gear knob? Isn't it loose that way?

I kept the original tip shifter so the button was still there so no problems. I just added the gaitor...

Hey - car looks great - did you do this yourself or get someone else to it ?
My FTO is red and I want the console, part of doors and the plastic around the dials to match, as well as getting some LED's in there. Trouble is, I wouldn't attempt to do it myself. Can you recommend anyone ???
