All that snow was pretty bizarre - I got hooked up with set of snow socks for the bm - made a world of difference but the pain being you can't really use them on tarmac but the grip was enough for me to order some winter tyres - went for a half way house set (Falken HS-439) so dry/wet tarmac driving doesn't suffer too much - should be fitted next week

Thankfully that bloody snow and ice has just about left us (for now). My street still has some ice in the middle and there are still some piles of snow around the place. It never prevented me from driving normally to work any day, but my ice packed street caused me some minor headaches in the mornings !

If only could say the same about the house - the snow ripped of my rear guttering, caused a leak in my kitchen roof and was the straw that broke the camel's back on my 100 year old house when the chimney collapsed damaging the neighbours roof and my own

Worst of all was that the insurance assessor came out today and told me that this is wear and tear and that I'm covered for zero

The wear and tear (as in the chimney itself), probably won't be covered, but the accidental damaged that resulted (damage to your roof, your neighbours, and any resulting internal damage) should, I think, be covered.

I'd say what you probably had out is an insurance adjuster, who effectively works for the insurance company. It might be worth getting an insurance assessor, someone who will fight for your side. Certainly worth talking to one, and he should be able to give more solid advice than me. (Don't know any names off hand I'm afraid)

(This is all personal option and I take no legal responsibility for any inaccuracies above, but will take 10% commission if I save you some money.. :) )

That's a good point TC - I think I will follow that advice - so far, just the scaffolding alone has cost me nearly €2k !!

Not much in the way of snow here in Limerick, although the little we got a week ago is still on the ground.
It is cold though...
