Tony Boland Autolink...Any good..???

Postby gfalls » Tue Feb 16, 2010 9:19 pm

Thinking of buying a motor off this garage. Anyone (Colm...!) had any dealings with them?

These used to be called TBCS, then they were raided by customs and the place went up in flames last year conveniently taking most of the stock with it (near the Luas car park bridge) Not actually owned by Tony Boland and nothing to do with the other Bolands garage in the area (Opel dealer in Clondalkin)

Personally I wouldn't..... that goes for 95% of garages on the Naas Road which change names regularly and leave customers without warranty.

Which car were you looking at?

This one http://www.carzone.ie/search/201007196917945/advert I've carchecked it for €18, and it seems in order. Milage OK and no accident history. Its an import, been in Ireland since 2002. What do you think?

Looks OK for the money. The 1.8 GDI is known for problems with injector spray, and the heads and throttle body are supposed to be problematic. Get a written warranty on it.

Also be aware that they're taxed as a 1.9 and that small bouncy faux jeeps aren't the last word in safety

What are you looking for out of a car? Is it for yourself or her indoors?

Those are nightmarish on fuel - unburstable though and that's a European model which is good.

Fulltime 4WD, autobox, wardrobe aerodynamics and chunky tyres all go against you. they're light enough, only about 150kg more than an FTO.

How is this better than an FTO though :(

For the price of that Rav, you'd get a nice Tiptronic one.

54k. Close but no cigar :smt110 It was a steal at €2200. New clutch, timing belt, vario...something or other (whatever the hell that is...!) Its immaculate, you wouldn't think its a 99 plate. I'm pleased with it. I'm now officially a "petrol head".. :P

You're not a petrol head till you've had an Alfa break down.

Don't worry - it won't be long now ;)

Has it had a cambelt changed?

Yeah, done while the clutch was getting changed at 49k. I know the mechanic, he's Alfa trained. And a nice bloke to boot. He put me onto the seller, auld' fella in Arklow. He's the second owner and bought it off guy he new. Never been ragged. Its, without a doubt, the best example in Ireland. IMHO.. :D
