Eh.. . Help

Postby RussMan » Mon Oct 17, 2005 9:36 pm

Hi.

Earlier tonight the "Engine System Warning" light came on the car... my car hadn't been driven in about 4 days .... started... left idle for 3-4 minutes.. drove out of estate ... tutted up the road and about 5 minutes later into my journey had to brake with someone turning into their house... noticed the top left light come on and then off momentarily... drove off a little more... braked and it came on again for approx 30 seconds and then off again.... Drove another 15 minutes to college and no sign of light... Left car parked for 3 hours then drive home.... no sign of light and car running well.. Car is was service 8000 Kilometres ago ... Was planning to wait until 10000K any recommendations??? Dangerous to drive? Switch off mivec until i can get it booked in with Paul?

Thanks in advance
Russ

Didn't know you could turn off mivec... :?

Strange that it would come on and go off though. try earthing that pin of the connector so the dash lights will blink the code, see if that gives you anything to go on.

It could be a number of different things, something as simple as a dodgy sensor could throw up the engine light, try undertaking a diagnostic:

Hows it driving? I assume they're nothing noticibly wrong? I don't think that disabling MIVEC will have any impact (Kev, he's got a controller so he could just stick the MIVEC kick in point up to 8.5k)

Was there any update on this as it happened me today.
The car was up and stilts since the feb birthday meet in Galway as I was getting the alloys refurbished. Got the wheels back today and brought the car for a clean the engine warning light cam on 4 time for about 2 seconds when I was slowing down to lights etc but would go away. I filled up on petrol and washed the car and the light didn't come on since!

Anyone know why this is.
The car is running and sounds great although the car was slightly on a slope when on the stilts if that would make a difference!
Anyone shed any light on this

Have ya checked the oil?

I had this issue on a colt before, exactly the same as described. Does it come on after hard driving or breaking? goes off after 10-30 seconds?

Give her an oil change, this solved mine, otherwise it could be a sensor

I have the oil filter and ring in the post for a change I'll do myself. There is a small leak, maybe the the rocker cover the would explain It and the drop in oil pressure but not sure where it is coming from. It's heading into the garage for this as someone rear ended me on thursday and can't to any work under the car :(

Do a diagnostic test and see what comes up. My bet would be possible this
http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/viewto ... 11&t=11071.

Remeber when flashing out codes the long flashes are first followed by the fast flashes i.e 3long flashes followed by 3 fast is code 33. Had a problem with a legnum recently and it gives out fast flashes first so I was checking for the wrong codes.

Ok thanks for that Rory.
I was driving around all day today and it never came on once.
Getting the cat put on and a full oil change tomorrow for an upcoming NCT. Maybe that might help.
Might throw some of that engine flush in before the oil change to clean it out proper
